Stepping Out On His Faith

In 2004 Wess Adams walked away from a lucrative career with the railroad to pursue his calling in the singing ministry.  Few people would leave the security of a good career to step out on faith and follow where God leads.  Here's the story of one man that did just that.

Wess Adams grew up on Southern Gospel music.  memories of singing around the family piano are as early as age two.  Singing was the hub of activity and music was the social glue that held family and friends close to each other and to the gospel.  Both Wess' Mom and Dad sang in their own quartets and took their children along to attend all-night sings, enjoying the best groups of that era.

Wess came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ early in life and dedicated his life at age 14 during a Bill Glass (Cleveland Browns Alumni) Youth Crusade.  Wess understood that going to church and being a family member of Christian parents did not provide salvation personally.  Everyone must understand their own need of a Savior due to their personal sin, repent, and receive Jesus as the only provision to be accepted by the Holy Creator, God.

Wess was president of his church youth group and began a youth prayer meeting on Wednesdays.  Many opportunities existed for Wess all through his life to use his talent.  He soon began singing as a soloist, in duets, trios, quartets, and church choir.  Also involvement in high school chorus, musicals, district and state choirs, European tour with All Ohio Youth Choir and University A'Capella choir at Bowling Green State University expanded his vocal potential.

The railroad provided a career since 1973, as a locomotive Engineer, Road Foreman of Engines, Train Master, Acting Terminal Manager and Acting Superintendent of Operations.  Although the living provided was good, the lifestyle demanded too much absenteeism for a strong family.

Since April 2004, Susan and Wess have stepped out in Faith, believing God will provide all their needs as they make themselves available to Him for His glory.  Well will be the first to tell you his life has not been without mistakes, trials, failure and defeat, yet a strong resolute faith in Jesus Christ continues to be the core of Wess Adams.

Wess, a graduate of Been Speer's Stamps/Baxter School of Music, is now a staff member.  He continues as a student of Chris Beatty, Vocal Coach.  Wess is thankful for the encouragement offered by so many peers such as:  Ben Speer, Bill Gaither, Nick Bruno, Eddy Bolton, Lillie Knauls, and Darlene Neptune.  Extra special mentorship continues from the generous hearts of Brian and Allison Speer, Ben Speer & David Staton.  Collaborations include joint appearances in concerts and the Duet "Every Knee Shall Bow" on his CD entitled "On Track".

Wess believes as a Christian vocalist, he has a stewardship responsibility to God for his salvation and talent.  Believing He who has begun a good work in him will continue.  Knowing as Christians, though we may strive to do all we can to be our best, we must remember that the best we can ever offer to our Creator God apart from Him, is but filthy rags.  Therefore we must daily empty ourselves to allow the indwelling spirit of our living Lord to do His work through us.
